It is important to keep an eye on your blood pressure, especially if you are taking medication. We offer a free blood pressure test so you can easily keep on track of your blood pressure.

A blood pressure test will measure the pressure of the blood against the walls of your arteries. If this pressure is too high, it will put added strain on your arteries and heart. This, in turn, can increase your chances of getting a heart attack or a stroke.

There is no need to book in for this service. Just pop into our pharmacy and we will get one of our trained staff to provide you with the test. We take these tests in our private consultation room. Based on your results we will be able to advise you on any measures you should take. Depending on the results of your test, we may need to advise you to see your doctor for further tests.

What is involved in a Blood Pressure Test

A blood pressure test is quick and pain-free. One of our trained staff will put an arm cuff around your upper arm. This cuff inflates and deflates and then provides us with two readings. There is some pressure applied to your arm during the process but it should not hurt.

The first reading from the test is the pressure of the blood when your heart beat is pushing blood around the body. This is called Systolic Pressure. The second reading is the pressure of the blood when your heart is resting in between beats. This is called Diastolic Pressure.

According to the HSE a blood pressure reading below 120/80mmHg is considered to be normal.
